Homeopathy for Babies & Children
I see many children in my homeopathic practice for many different health issues. I often say that it is a very good time to use homeopathy when they are children. It helps for their future health, and also it is healing for the family.
A child’s vital force is strong. That is why you often see a child get sick suddenly, run a high fever, and then get better quickly. I enjoy working with children and have a soft spot for them.

Children respond well to homeopathy, and often very quickly.
In my homeopathic practice, I have seen children with the following issues:
The process of working with a baby or child is the same as with an adult. It is finding out how they experience what is bothering them. With a baby, or a non verbal child, they are still telling/showing us what is bothering them through their behaviors, their reactions, their fears, as well as their physical symptoms.
- Skin eruptions – eczema, warts, rashes
- Ear aches and ear infections – getting back on course after a round of antibiotics
- Continually crying and seeming to be in pain or discomfort
- Difficulty focusing on school work
- Behavioral issues—angry outbursts, tantrums, withdrawing
- Reactions to vaccinations
- Sleep issues such as insomnia, nightmares
- Digestive issues, such as acid reflux, spitting up, stomachaches after eating, chronic diarrhea, difficulty eating certain foods, constant nausea
- Colic
- Breathing difficulties, such as asthma
- Chronic coughs and colds
- Menstrual issues in young girls—painful cramps; being very emotional and weepy

Patient Stories:
A Cough
One boy came to homeopathy because he had a cough. The cough bothered his mother a lot. It actually bothered her more than the boy.
The first remedy did not do very much. When they came back for a follow-up, I had the opportunity to just be with him for a few minutes while his mother and sister were outside. I asked him what was bothering him. He said that his younger sister was bossing him around, and he didn’t like that. He felt small. This information gave me a better understanding of him.
I gave him a different homeopathic remedy that addressed the cough and this feeling of being small. He responded well to the remedy. They didn’t come back for a follow-up appointment. I heard through the family that had referred them to me that the cough had subsided. I am thinking, too, that he was feeling better about himself and in relation to his sister, not feeling small.
Earaches
Another boy came for homeopathic care because he had several episodes of nasal congestion, earaches and running slight fevers. He had been on several courses of antibiotics, from which he would get better for about four to six weeks when the symptoms would recur. He would be given another course of antibiotics at this time. He did very well with the homeopathic remedy. Six months later, he didn’t feel well. We gave another dose of the homeopathic remedy, which helped. No more antibiotics.
Several years later, I saw this boy again for a different issue. He was having difficulty separating from his mother when he went to school in the morning, and he was missing his grandfather, who had recently passed away. I took the case again. A different homeopathic remedy was needed. I think, too, we may have used a series of remedies, one at a time. This is very common in the healing process. He did very well.
Inability to Concentrate
Another boy found it difficult to focus on his school work while in school. His mother needed to help him when he was doing his schoolwork at home. She was concerned that he was lagging behind. Within three weeks after taking the homeopathic remedy that fit him, his mother reported that he was doing his homework almost completely on his own, and was able to focus during the school day. She also reported that his teacher noticed a big change in him.
